The leader of the coalition of northern youths, Yerima Shettima, has expressed the intent to influence northern lawmakers to include referendum in the constitution allowing ethnic groups to secede from the country.
The move, according to Shettima, will take effect after a response from the United Nations to his letter demanding that the organisation declare the Indigenous People of Biafra and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, terrorists.
Shettima stated that the Igbo were free to return to the South-East if they believed in ‘Biafra Republic,’ adding that those who believed in secession had no reason to live in the north.
According to him, the unity of the country is negotiable and any group that does not wish to be part of the country should be free to secede through a UN-supervised referendum.
