German police have detained 12 men, aged between 16 and 29, from Nigeria, Somalia and Ivory Coast, who hid underneath the cargo of a freight train coming from Italy after other entry points were tightened up.
According to Reuters, the men boarded the Munich-bound freight train in Verona, in northern Italy and were found after officials used heat-detection cameras. The men, who were freezing cold and in a poor physical state, were pulled out of a metal frame underneath the lorry containers mounted on the carriage and emergency services to crosscheck their health status were immediately notified.
The stowaways, at the time of their discovery, did not present any identification papers.
