Gunmen suspected to be assassins today attacked the home of a ‎former Acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Wenipreye Seibarugu, at Okaka, Yenagoa, the state capital. According to reports, the gunmen, all masked, invaded his home at about 2:00 a.m and as they made attempts to enter his home, his wife saw them and raised an alarm.
The former acting governor, his orderly as well as youths in the area joined hands to chase away the assailants. It was while he was chasing after the suspected assassins that he sprained his hand.  He was taken to a nearby hospital where he is receiving medical attention. The state police command says it has begun investigation into the matter. 
Seibarugu who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, was a two-time Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, deputy governor to Chief Timipre Sylva and an acting governor of the state.
